Meet a Board Member – Lori Walton

Meet Lori Walton!

How long have you been a member?  1.5 years

What inspired you to join the organization? While I was still living down South, I saw an Impact100 Oakland County social media ad, which peaked my interest based on the focus of bringing women together collectively to give back to the community through giving. Once I did further research online to learn more, I was excited to join Impact100 Oakland County when I relocated back to Michigan. Since that time, I served on the Grants Review Committee and currently am the Grants Co-Chair on the Impact100 Oakland County Board.

How has your membership impacted your life?  It’s been inspiring to meet so many women from different backgrounds, who I otherwise would not know, that are all motivated to help the community. Through these connections, I’ve been able to build friendships while learning more about the needs of the community and ways to support nonprofits.

What is your favorite Impact100 memory? I remember going to my first Impact100 Oakland County event to learn more about membership, which was at a local tea and spice store. I was excited and nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. However, as soon as I arrived, Katherine, who was the current Impact100 Oakland County President, immediately welcomed me and made me feel comfortable. After speaking with her, I wanted to join and be a part of the impact!

What can you tell someone who is thinking about joining Impact100 Oakland
County?  If you have been looking for a way to give back to the community while expanding your network, then look no further than Impact100 Oakland County! It’s a great opportunity to contribute financially towards grants for nonprofits, be a part of the grants review process to help select nonprofit finalists and network with some amazing women for lifelong connections.

Tell us a little bit about YOU! I’m a native of Michigan, high school graduate of Southfield-Lathrup and college graduate of Florida A&M University with a Bachelors and Masters of Business Administration. After nearly 20 years of living in the South, I relocated back to Michigan in 2023 to deepen my impact in the local community. As part of my 20+ year career at notable Fortune 500 companies in HR, marketing, communications and philanthropy, I’ve personally dedicated my life’s work to help address disparities globally for underrepresented populations and underserved communities to increase access to healthy food, safe housing, quality education, and job placements. It’s pure joy for me to help others in the community overcome obstacles to fulfill their dreams.

Thank you for sharing your story with us Lori, and for your many contributions
to our organization!
